Xiamen Huaqiao Hotel
I booked this hotel via cTrip and got a fairly good deal considering the place has a great location, being only five minutes walk to the ferry terminal that heads to Galungyu, close to the old buildings and shopping that’s on Zhong Shan Road and also only five minutes walk from Zhongshan Park.
The hotel is advertised as a four star but this is perhaps a little dubious, it’s an old hotel, the staff, apart from the one who checked me in, are un-helpful, unreceptive and for the most seem to be happy to blatantly ignore foreigners.
The hotel is owned by CTS (China Travel Sevice) and their travel agency next to the hotel offers the same level of service to foreigners, they also use the ‘ignore’ method of customer service.
The next dubious thing about this hotel is the rooms that are offered at the low price are actually in another building next to the hotel and the rooms are tiny.
But regardless, if you forget the bad service or the lack of, and maybe I was just there on a bad day, and if you overlook that it’s mis-represented as a four star hotel, then it’s reasonable value considering it’s location.
The room was clean, albeit with a strong chemical smell, but Ive noticed this smell before and I think its a type of room deodoriser that many Chinese use, but to me it smells like petrol. The bathroom is tiny but modern with new tiling and there’s plenty of hot water.
Would I stay here again, I’d look for somewhere else first, but I’d be ok with staying here again if I couldnt match the location for the price.
The other reason I’d consider staying again is the free buffet breakfast, it’s quite ok. Its a mix of western and chinese cuisine and there’s a couple of chefs on hand cooking up fresh eggs, omelettes and dumplings.
